[Interview Jeune Afrique]- Interview with Tarik Lefriyekh, Managing Director of Rawur S.A.

« We provide all our customers with solutions tailored to their needs »

How would you sum up your business?

We started in 2019, and in 2021, our premiums written reached USD 65 million, representing a market share of 31%. We are now the leader in the property and casualty segment (fire, accident and other risks), which currently represents almost the entire insurance market in the DRC. This progress is due to the technical skills of our teams, our financial capacity and the fluidity of our procedures. Thanks to a panel of leading international reinsurers, we are able to compensate our policyholders quickly, regardless of the size of the claim.

What solutions do you offer?

Rawsur S.A. offers its corporate clients comprehensive solutions covering all the risks they face: property damage, business interruption, third-party liability, auto fleet, political violence, fire, transportation, construction, employee health, etc. We serve companies of all sizes and sectors, from small businesses to subsidiaries of multinational groups. Our most important asset is our human capital. Our account managers take the time to listen to our clients, understand their risk needs and propose customized solutions. Not to mention insurance solutions tailored to the needs of Congolese citizens, including car insurance, home insurance, travel insurance and more.

How do you see the future?

The insurance market in the DRC has great potential for growth. However, in order to realize this potential, a number of obstacles need to be overcome. The involvement of the various ministries to ensure compliance with the 6 compulsory insurance schemes in the DRC seems essential to us. In addition, the creation of a structured financial market where insurance companies can invest and grow their liquid assets would give a decisive boost to our sector. Finally, a review of taxation, particularly on insurance contracts, would also have a positive impact.
